Approximately every two years we hold classes for Braille Transcription. The classes are conducted by volunteers to aspiring volunteers. The lessons are taught from a course offered through the Library of Congress, National Library Service for the Blind and Physically Handicapped (NLS). We help our volunteers complete the course and submit a manuscript to the Library of Congress to obtain certification as a Braille Transcriber.
The classes usually meet once a week for 9 months to study the 20 lessons in the course. This is not a quick and easy subject to learn and master. It will require time and dedication. Nevertheless, it is very rewarding and it fills a great need for more Braille Transcribers in this country. Moreover, we have a great group of men and women who are willing and eager to help you and have you join our group. Please fill out the volunteer application and someone will get in touch with you.
